The TORATORA Walk – from the
'Tora Outstation' to the Tora Coast
The TORATORA walk is a 4–5 hour (13km) moderate walk from the Tora Outstation to the Coast, plus an optional and easy 2 hour Tora coast walk, bus collection and return by arrangement.
A separate, much admired walking track begins at 'The Outstation', and ascends through magnificent Native bush to the wide open coastal ridge-tops that pierce the sky above the Tora Coast. Absorb the spectacular views before descending through coastal farmland to the shores of the Pacific Ocean, where waves crash over more than 15km of unpopulated black-sand beaches.

The Walk
From the Tora Outstation to the Coast. 4 – 5 hrs (13km). The optional 2hr coastal walk is a 6km amble along the coast.
Your journey begins at the Tora Outstation - leaving behind the banks of the Awhea River, you will follow a meandering creek inland, beneath massive stands of Native Bush. Enveloped by Flora and Fauna, the only distraction from the tranquility and sheer beauty is the prolific native bird life that inhabits this bush. After ascending through the breathtaking Native bush you will emerge onto the wide open coastal ridge tops for sensational views of the Tora Coastline and massive surrounding Coastal Sheep Stations. A well deserved descent through coastal hill country farmland will deliver you to the unique wild and rugged Tora Coast where waves break over 15 kilometers of black-sand beaches and seals bask on fascinating rock formations.
Refuel at 'Shirley's Garden' - Tora's answer to a 'café on the coast'! Relax and enjoy bottomless cups of tea and coffee with freshly baked scones, muffins and/or old fashion ginger gems. Inform Shirley if you are ready to be picked up or if you'd like to meander along the Optional two hour Coastal Walk.
Optional 2hr coastal walk: Amble 6km along the coast via Manurewa Point where a seal colony basks on the extraordinary rock formations. Continue South along the black sand beach to view the Opua Shipwreck. Here you will be picked up in 'The Bus' (an experience you'll be relaying to your friends and families for years to come).
'The Bus' will deliver you safely back to the 'Outstation' with memories you can treasure for a life time.
